A few years ago the German tennis association (DTB) led next to the ranking tournaments the more or less capability based tournaments so called ( LK- tournaments). Capability classes are used to classify each player according to his personal skill level and this unique in Germany.
The LK tournaments offer the opportunity to all players who have a German tennis ID number the improvement of their personal capability class level. This is an incentive for playing more tournaments while gathering points . Moreover the capability class players can improve the position in their team. Huge numbers of tennis LK-tournaments are getting more and more popular in Germany.
Tennis clubs being member of a Tennis Association do have the possibility to align LK-tournaments without limitation. Meanwhile LK-tournaments are offered in all German tennis associations in summer and winter, so each player can set his individual goal and plan his personal tournament calendar.
The capability ranking is subdivided in LK clusters from 1 to 23 and you are gathering point by defeats in LK-tournaments and league games. That means all defeat matches will be rewarded with LK-points. German tennis association determines the LK-point procedure and the points gathered depending on the capability class of your opponent. Winning against a player with a higher capability class generates more points than against players of an equal or lower capability class. Absent at a tournament leads to point deduction, so called minus points.
Yearly, by September 30th each every player will be classified on the basis of his points in a capability classes for the upcoming year.
